A NEW FILM
BY ERIC TORRES
Eric Torres, Director Eric Torres, born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico in 1977 moved to the United States at the age of 18 to pursue his love of filmmaking. He became an editor at the age of 19 working for Crescent Moon Studios in Miami Florida cutting music videos and EPKs for international stars such as Jon Secada, Gloria Estefan, and Raul Diblasio. From there, Eric’s career quickly moved him to Los Angeles where he began his feature film editing career under the guise of the acclaimed film producer Fred Weintraub. As Eric’s career blossomed, he became known as a story-teller who could work in all formats including TV reality shows (The Bachelor - ABC, Tourgasm - HBO), scripted comedy (The Man Show - Comedy Central), music videos (Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls) and television documentaries (Healing Katrina - Discovery). In 2006, after spending more than a decade as an editor, Eric began a new phase in his career and started production on his directorial debut, a feature documentary about the human rights struggles in Burma. Entitled Freedom from Fear (named after a book written by Aung San Suu Kyi, a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and the main focus of the film), Eric has spent the greater part of the last three years learning about the Burmese non-violent movement. His work has taken him from inside the heart of military-torn Burma where he met in secrecy with the leaders of the non-violent revolution to activists around the world in Europe, Asia, and the United States who are working to lead the charge for change. |
